Construction work is now underway at Newbury development

Date: 24 June 2019

On behalf of David Wilson Homes

Construction work is now underway at David Wilson Homes and Sovereign Housing Association’s latest development in Newbury following a ceremonial sod cutting event.

The new site on Hutton Close, which will be called Cherry Blossom Meadows, is transforming a previous housing estate into 80 new, modern family homes to rent or buy.

Working in partnership, Sovereign Housing Association and David Wilson Homes have now begun building work, following the demolition of the former 1960s flats and bungalows.

Attending on the day to mark the occasion were David Wilson Homes Land Director Ian Blair and Sales Director Rob Allen, who were joined by Corinne Moore, Land and Planning Manager, from Sovereign Housing Association, Hilary Cole, Executive Member for Housing, West Berks and Sally Kelsall, Housing Service Manager, West Berks.

Paul Crispin, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “We are delighted to begin construction work on Hutton Close and it was good to come together with Sovereign to mark the cut of the first sod on site.

“This development will bring much needed, quality built homes to the area that will be available to those struggling to get on the property ladder.”

Having secured planning permission for 30% (19) of the new homes to be affordable, Sovereign worked with David Wilson Homes and Homes England to increase this by another five properties.

Roger Keeling, Sovereign’s Strategic Asset Management Director, said: “We’re really excited to start work at Blossom Meadows and we’re delighted to have made even more affordable homes possible since planning permission was granted. Built to high standards and in a perfect town-centre location, we believe these modern homes will be great places to live.”

Hilary Cole, West Berkshire’s Executive Member for Housing and Homelessness said: “We are pleased that work is underway at Hutton Close. The development will provide much needed affordable housing at an accessible and central location. The mix of options to rent or buy will provide opportunities for people looking to get on the property ladder in West Berkshire which would otherwise be out of reach.”

The 80-home development will bring a selection of flats and houses made up of 51 four-, three- and two-bed homes for sale; 17 three- two-, and one-bed homes for social rent; and 12 two- three- and four-bed properties for shared ownership.

Whilst benefiting from an array of local amenities, those residing at the development can make the most of the excellent commuter links available including the A34 and M4, in addition to great access to Newbury train station for travel further afield.

A variety of shops and restaurants are within walking distance, whilst a selection of gym facilities is nearby in Shaw for those striving to maintain their fitness goals.

For those interesting in this upcoming development, starting prices on the available homes will be released in due course.
