Welcome to Great Oldbury

Congratulations on your new home

Great Oldbury is an exciting new community, where the developers have already completed a new primary school, opened a community centre, and created lots of open and play spaces.

The community centre opened in November 2024 and includes a community hall with sports facilities and a community café.

Visit the newly formed Parish Council's website Opens in new window where you'll find details of what’s on at the community centre.

While your new community continues to evolve, if you can’t find something to suit your needs, there are other services and facilities locally that you can use instead.

What's nearby?

The Great Oldbury development lies on the A419, just minutes away from junction 13 of the M5 and the A38 Gloucester to Bristol road. Stroud is just 5 miles away, Gloucester 9 miles and Bristol 27 miles away.

Its convenient location means you can make use of established local amenities, including those in the nearby town of Stonehouse.

Local community

Stonehouse town has a thriving community with regular events and activities including youth clubs, sports clubs and support groups. You'll find plenty of information about community clubs and groups on the Stonehouse Town Council website  Opens in new window

They also publish a calendar of events  Opens in new window which features weekly Parkruns and annual events like the Christmas Goodwill Fest.

Shopping

On the roundabout next to the site there is a small shop in the Shell Petrol Station, a Starbucks and Subway. About a mile away in the village of Eastington is a Co-Op on Alkerton Road. There is a Spar Shop on Park Parade in Stonehouse and a Co-Op on the High Street in Stonehouse.

There is a Sainsbury’s at Dudbridge Hill in Stroud which is just over 3.5 miles from the site on the A419. Stroud also has a large Tesco, Waitrose and Aldi and a thriving town centre. For a bigger variety of stores, head to Bristol, where you’ll find Cabot Circus and Cribbs Causeway, or head north to Gloucester for the Eastgate Shopping Centre, Gloucester Quays and a range independent shops around the cathedral.

Transport

As well as convenient road connections, the Great Oldbury development has good public transport links.

There are regular trains from Stonehouse station, connecting to Gloucester in 14 minutes and on to London Paddington in an hour and three quarters. To head south, head for Cam and Dursley station, where you’ll find direct trains to Bristol in just 40minutes. The 61 bus service, which runs hourly between Bussage, Stroud, Eastington, Dursley and Woodmancote, stops at the development; the bus stop is opposite the bus turning circle on Grove Lane.

Education

The development includes a primary school and nursery which opened in 2021. Find out more information about the school  Opens in new window. For older pupils, Maidenhill School is close by in Stonehouse, with Stroud High School and Marling Grammer School for Boys in Stroud both rated ‘outstanding’.
