Lift and lifting equipment safety

We take the safety of our customers, colleagues and visitors very seriously. To meet all our regulatory requirements and best practices, we service and maintain lifts and complete LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) safety inspections.

We'll also carry out repairs to lifts in communal properties and within our customers’ homes.

This is how regularly you can expect servicing and inspection visits for any domestic lift and similar equipment:

Servicing and repairs

Our lift servicing and repairs are carried out by a specialist third party, Jacksons Lifts. If a lift or lifting equipment needs to be serviced or repaired, our third party contractor will write to you directly with proposed appointment dates and times to carry out the servicing.

If you have any issues with your lift, please ring us on 0300 5000 926 to report a problem. Visit our steps to take if someone is stuck in a lift page for useful advice too.

If your lift becomes obsolete (cannot be repaired), we will make a referral to the Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) team at your local council to seek support for a new lift. This may also involve the council’s Occupational Therapy team.

LOLER inspections

We carry out LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) inspections to ensure the continued safety of lifts and that they pose no health and safety risks.

We have partnered with Zurich to carry out LOLER inspections. Zurich will write to you directly with proposed appointment dates and times for these.

Helping us keep lifts and lifting equipment safe

You can help us keep lifts and lifting equipment safe by:

  • Letting us know if you install or remove any lifting equipment - so that we can make sure we have this on our programme to service, repair and inspect regularly.
  • Allowing access to your home when our contractors make an appointment.
  • If you have lifting equipment installed in your home, letting us know if any of your contact details change (such as mobile phone numbers or email addresses).
  • Ensuring stairlifts or through floor lifts are kept free from debris and can be easily accessed, so that the servicing and repairs can happen freely.
