Equality and diversity

We’re committed to achieving the highest standards of inclusiveness and equality in how we relate to the people who use our services and also those who work for us.

We aim to be an organisation that treats everybody fairly, and values everybody equally. This means we’ll create opportunities for residents, employees, and the wider communities we serve, and will take action against any unfair discrimination.

What we want to achieve

Our Equality and Diversity Strategy describes our vision, responsibilities and objectives in this area. It also explains what we’ve achieved so far, and our plans for the future.

Making sure we stick to our principles

We use a system called Equality Analysis to make sure that any new policy or service we introduce does not discriminate against anyone, regardless of their:

  • race
  • religion or belief
  • gender
  • gender re-assignment
  • sexual orientation
  • disability
  • age
  • marriage and civil partnership
  • pregnancy or maternity

By completing an Equality Analysis we can identify the practical steps we need to take to tackle any negative effects or discrimination that may result from the new service or policy.

Our vision:

"Everyone associated with Sovereign will understand what it means to treat people fairly, and will act on that understanding. We will be able to show clearly how we embrace and promote equality and diversity by creating opportunities for residents, employees, and the wider communities we serve. We will take prompt and robust action to deal with unfair discrimination by any individual or organisation connected with Sovereign."
